19 year on Dustin Self of Piedmont, Okla., left in mid March for Klamath Falls Ashland in Oregon. According to the Associated Press, he wanted to "see if he could live in the wild." He was inspired by "Into The Wilderness."
The Harney County Sheriff's Office in Oregon, reported that the teen planned to join the Church of the Holy Light of the Queen, a South American religion that uses hallucinogenic tea as a sacrament.
Dustin's parents Victor and Tammy Self told the Associated Press that they tried to stop their son from going into the wilderness. Tammy self said that "we did everything we could to try to talk him out of it, he was leaving, no matter what."
