Every record on that album is amazing, and no doubt I played it constantly. And, no people, I'm not declaring that the album is outstanding just because the lyrics to the songs are full of passion and deliciously sweet, and not because the composition and the production is soft and sexy, and not only because the record fed into my punch drunk love euphoria that I was feeling towards my Boo Bear at that time, no way that's not it. LOL. It really is because the album is truly incredible.
Although I first discovered the great jazz musician in the early nineteen eighties, he had been around long before that. After earning his Master's Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation and working as a Rehabilitation Counselor, Mr. Jarreau knew that there was something bigger for him on the horizon. His talent as a musician could not be contained. The music was calling him.
In 1975, Al Jarreau released his first album "We Got By." Mr. Jarreau who was nicknamed the "Acrobat of Scat," would go on to release 32 more albums and win seven Grammy Awards. His career extended over 3 decades, and he was the only vocalist to win awards in the R&B, jazz and pop categories.
Jarreau toured and performed with musical legends including "Miles Davis, Kathleen Battle, George Duke, George Benson, David Sanborn, Joe Sample and Chick Corea," just to name a few.
On February 8, 2017 at the age of 76, and after a long battle with pneumonia, Al Jarreau died of respiratory failure. His talent was a beautiful gift to the world, and he will certainly be missed.
