Olympic Paralympic Track Runner, Oscar Pistorius Shoots Girlfriend Dead

2/14/2013

February 2013, 26 year old South African, 2012 Olympic Paralympic track runner Oscar Pistorius, is charged with shooting and killing his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp inside of his Pretoria, South Africa home. The Olympian is accused of murdering Reeva, a 30 year old law school graduate, reality TV actress and model on the day after Valentines Day. The Prosecution accuses Pistorius of shooting seven times through a locked bathroom door that Reeva was hiding in.  Three bullets struck her.

Pistorius is a double amputee as the result of a bone defect that he was born with.  He is affectingly known as the “Blade Runner.”  After much opposition and controversy, he made history while competing in the 2012 Olympics with the use of his prosthetic limbs.  Other competitors thought his carbon fiber blade prosthesis gave him an unfair advantage.

Authorities have stated that there is currently no known motive for the crime. However, they do intend to prove that the murder of Steevekamp was premeditated.  Pistorius has stated that he thought his model girlfriend was an intruder. He said that they were deeply in love. Pistorius is being held without bail in a police station in the South African capital of Pretoria.  Family and friends have said that the pair were involved in a happy relationship, and that 29 year old Steenkamp was  excited about upcoming Valentines day.  The day before the holiday she tweeted "It's a beautiful day! Make things happen. Starting my day off with a yummy healthy shake from my boo," followed by a smiley face. "Boo.”

Steenkamp was described as a great person to be around. Her agency Capacity Relations tweeted “She was the kindest, sweetest human being; an angel on earth and will be sorely missed.”

Queen Latifah To Play An African King

2/10/2013

Queen Latifah will play King Peggy in a movie slated to be released in 2014.
The movie is about 55 year old administrative assistant Peggielene Bartels, who
was sleeping one night in the summer of 2008, when she received a 4:00 a.m.
telephone call from her cousin living in a village off the coast of Guana.  He
told her that she was the new King of Otuam.  Peggyielene worked for almost 30
years at the U.S. Guanian Embassy, but just like that she went from a U.S.
government employee living in an one bedroom condo outside of Washington D.C.
to living in a refurbished  palace as the first female king of Otuam, reigning over
7,000 people. And she does have a gold crown and scepter.  The village residents bow

and address her as“Nana,” an honorary title given to royalty.

How did this happen.  Peggy’s uncle was the former King of Otuam.  Peggy had visited the
village many times to spend time with her mother.  When her uncle died, the village elders
appointed her to be the next in line to rule the village. It took some convincing, of course
Peggy thought everyone was crazy.  But once she could finally wrapped her head around
what was happening, she accepted the kingship. Peggieline  still works at the Ghanian
Embassy, but combines her holidays into one month which she spends in Otuam.  As king,
Peggieline of couse has more power than if  she had the title of queen.  She is in charge.
Peggieline was born in south Ghana, but relocated to the U.S. when she was in her 20s.
After leaving Ghana and before arriving in the state, she studied in  England.

Though Peggieline is ruler of an African Village,  being king is not all pomp and circumstance.
Peggy has to deal with the many needs of the impovershed people. She has helped families pay school fees, bought  computers and provided the first ever community ambulance.  When in the states she wakes up every morning at 1:00 a.m., calls Otuam  to speak with the elders.  She needs to be brought up to speed on what’s happening in the community.

I love Queen Latifah and I love this story. I cannot wait to see the movie.
