I was introduced to Al Jarreau in the early 1980s, when my very first love played for me a song from Mr. Jarreau's Album, "This Time." The song was titled "Your Sweet Love." At that moment, I instantly fell in love with his music. I remember thinking that his voice was so so pure, so smooth, so beautiful. Every record on that album is amazing, and no doubt I played it constantly. And, no people, I'm not declaring that the album is outstanding just because the lyrics to the songs are full of passion and deliciously sweet, and not because the composition and the production is soft and sexy, and not only because the record fed into my punch drunk love euphoria that I was feeling towards my Boo Bear at that time, no way that's not it. LOL. It really is because the album is truly incredible. Although I first discovered the great jazz musician in the early nineteen eighties, he had been around long before that. After earning his Master's Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation and working as a Rehabilitation Counselor, Mr. Jarreau knew that there was something bigger for him on the horizon. His talent as a musician could not be contained. The music was calling him. In 1975, Al Jarreau released his first album "We Got By." Mr. Jarreau who was nicknamed the "Acrobat of Scat," would go on to release 32 more albums and win seven Grammy Awards. His career extended over 3 decades, and he was the only vocalist to win awards in the R&B, jazz and pop categories. Jarreau toured and performed with musical legends including "Miles Davis, Kathleen Battle, George Duke, George Benson, David Sanborn, Joe Sample and Chick Corea," just to name a few. On February 8, 2017 at the age of 76, and after a long battle with pneumonia, Al Jarreau died of respiratory failure. His talent was a beautiful gift to the world, and he will certainly be missed. In the midst of ongoing protests, yesterday the 45th President of The United States, Donald J. Trump took the oath of office. In his Inauguration speech, he declared that it's time for the American people to take back their power from the Washington establishment.
When President Obama took office in 2009, the nation was in an economic meltdown. The banks and American auto makers needed government bailouts, millions were losing their jobs and businesses were going bankrupt. America was on the verge of a great depression.
Since that time, the things have drastically improved. Today, the stock market is at an all time high, corporate profits have shattered records, 90% of Americans have healthcare, the country has the longest job growth streak in history and the deficit has shrunk. Here are just a few of President Barack Obama's accomplishments during the last eight years of his presidency:
On Tuesday evening, 1/10/2017, President Barack Obama returned to Chicago to deliver the last speech of his presidency. He didn't focus on policy or waste time on his critics. He took that moment to give thanks to all who have supported him, and to tell the American people how much of an honor it was for him to serve as our president. President Obama being the great unifier that he is, reminded us all, that although we may not agree with each other, we have to at least listen to one another. And that as Americans, we have to find common ground. He also spoke to young Americans encouraging them to attach themselves to something bigger. He told them not to sit on the sidelines and complain if they don't agree with the way that their political leaders are handling things. He advised them to get involved and run for office so that their ideas can be heard. He will be tremendouly missed. I am certain that Barack Obama, America's 44th president, will go down in the history books as one of the most influential presidents of our time. Jesse Benton is Rand Paul's nephew. He heads Rand Paul's,"America's Liberty PAC."The Department of Justice indicted Jesse Benton for concealing payments made to former Iowa state senator Kent Sorenson. In 2011 Kent Sorenson dropped his endorsement of Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota to endorse former Representative Ron Paul of Texas.
Also indicted are John Tate, who was Ron Paul's campaign manager and is presently working with the pro-Rand Paul super PAC, and Dimitri Kesari, who was Ron Paul's deputy National Campaign Manger. On Friday, the president flew to Africa to began his visit, to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit.
Sunday as he spoke in Nairobi, he emphasized that his father's homeland had "come so far in just my lifetime." But, the president added that corruption, terrorism and the suppression of women are a few of the things getting in the way of Kenya's progress. He urged that everyone must work together, and not to accept the same old traditions just because "that's the way it's always been." Mr. Obama said that "Kenya is at a crossroads, a moment filled with peril but enormous promise." He also said that the young people of Kenya are hope for the future. And that America is excited to partner with Kenya in investing in it's young people. Barack Obama will also become the first US leader to address the 54-member African Union (AU) on Tuesday. Exactly why did the young man drive to a Chattanooga strip mall, shoot up a military recruiting center, then drive to a Navy operations support center miles away and kill four Marines and a Naval Serviceman. Authorities believe he was inspired by ISIS. But friends say that he was absolutely against Terrorism, telling them that ISIS was against Islam and doing wrong.
The man's parents sent him to Jordan to stay with a family hoping to help him with his of depression and drug use. U.S. Officials believe an uncle may have influenced him during this visit in November 2014. |
