OWN Reality Show Raising Whitley

One of the most talented actresses and comediennes on the planet, Kym Whitley, has a reality show on the Oprah Winfrey Network. We know Kym for the colorful, loud and brash characters she plays in such movies as Next Friday and Deliver Us from Eva.  Who can forget her performance as the wife of Martin Lawrence and mother of Raven Simone in College Road Trip. If you have had the pleasure of seeing Kym do stand-up, you know that she is undoubtedly one of the funniest people ever.

Now that Kym has delved into the world of reality television, we get to peek inside her personal life. What emerges is a sweeter softer side of the public persona of Kym Whitley. But nonetheless entertaining.

In the first episodes, we meet Kym’s newly adopted son Joshua. And her closest friends, whom she refers to as her village. Her docudrama centers around her daily life of raising her adorable son who is almost 2 years old. Kym is a loving single mom, but she has a busy schedule. So she relies on the help of the village to assist her with her motherly duties.

We watch as Kym invites her friend for over 10 years, fellow actress and comedienne Caroline Rhea to her house for a visit. Kym being the funny gal that she is, tells her assistant that whenever her white friends come to visit, they comment on her much African artwork she has. Kym says that she does not want her friend to feel uncomfortable, so maybe she should put up at least one piece of artwork by a white artist. Her assistant suggest putting up a picture of Abraham Lincoln.

When Caroline arrives, Kym puts her up in Joshua’s lovely room, and tells her that she has night duty.  The two of them decide that even though Joshua has a father in his life, Kym’s handsome friend, Rodney, Joshua still needs a nanny. The two of them begin with the interview process, and it gets a little crazy when one lady says that white people are the devil. One girl can barely speak English, and one man takes off his shirt. We also watch Kym take Joshua for his first haircut and buy his first potty.

The show not only revolves around Kym being a mother, we also get to see her go out on a manhunt with two of her closest girlfriends.

Kym decides that she wants to test the waters of interracial dating. She and the girls believe that the best place to meet white men is at a dog park. So, they put Kym’s dog in the car and their journey begins. They flirt a little and even meet a guy who Kym thinks is cute but her friends think is strange. Ultimately the ladies have no luck at finding romance at the dog park. But the day is not over. The next stop on their mission to find love is the grocery store. It’s in the supermarket that Kym hits the jackpot. She meets a tall handsome man. After their date, Kym brings her date back to the house where they meet up with Joshua’s father Rodney. And the fireworks begin.

This show is definitely on my must watch list. Read more at www.oprah.com

Sneak Peak Of The First Episode

Watching the Kim Kardashian and Ray J Sex Tape

One of my favorite new reality shows debuted on the Oprah Winfrey Network. The Golden Sisters. Mary, Josie and Teresa are the real Golden Girls. Italian and born in the Bronx, together they are hilarious. Oldest sister Mary is in her 80s, and her two younger siblings Josie and Teresa are twins.

I learned about these girls after a friend told me to watch a video of the three of them watching Ray J and Kim Kardashian’s sex tape. Their video was too funny. Josie said that she had seen a video of Kim Kardashian’s sex tape on the internet, so she showed it to oldest sister Mary and twin sister Teresa. The three of them were gasping and cracking up as Mary called Kim stupid and said that Ray J’s thing looked like a snake. When Ms. Oprah Winfrey got wind of these three ladies, she gave them a reality show.

I watched the first two episodes this weekend, and those gals did not disappoint. They were even more entertaining than I expected. Though these sisters all are senior citizens, they have as much energy as people half their age.

The three own a beauty salon but feel that they need to get more clients. So they decide to shoot a commercial. Twin Teresa calls on her grandsons to write the jingle for the commercial, perform the jingle in the commercial and be the cameramen for the commercial. It turns out fantastic.

I laughed so hard as I watched the three of them cuss, gamble, go to see Engelbert Humperdinck perform, and answer tweets from their twitter followers. I cannot wait to see more of them.
